Last night Hubby went shopping and came home with the DVD, Stand By Me. I love that movie except I forgot Jerry O'Connell's character was named Vern.

My hubby and I are highschool sweethearts, and I hated my nickname, Roni - too boyish. Well Hubby's friends didn't like the name Veronica. Not that they didn't like the name, but 4 syllables - we're talking about highschool boys here. So they all began referring to me as Vern.

As Gordie was trying to get Vern over the train trestle, Vern was such a scardy cat, I gave Hubby an accusatory stare. Is this why your friends call me Vern?

Well Hubby assured me the gang wasn't thinking about Stand By Me when they started calling me Vern. But now I'm left wondering, "were they?"
